This afternoon, I took Alessio on a steam train ride with the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway. We chose the Mountain Spirit, which runs the full length of the railway. This was his early birthday present — something he had specifically requested. 🎂❤️
What an absolutely stunning journey! The scenery was exceptional, with beautiful lakes, waterfalls and mountains covered in gorgeous pink and purple heather. Truly breathtaking. 💜🌿🏔️
We stopped at the final station, Blaenau Ffestiniog, for a little break, but unfortunately struggled to find a café. A lovely lady noticed us looking a little lost and came out to ask if we were searching for somewhere to have a drink.
She explained that most of the shops had closed before 4pm on a Friday, so we had just missed them all. But then, in the kindest gesture, she offered to make us a drink and wouldn’t accept any payment. Margaret explained that the place was a Christian community hub where people could drop in for a chat and a drink — so we certainly fitted right in! 😂❤️ And, after the long train journey, we were absolutely desperate for a drink!
We had a lovely little chat, thanked them for their wonderful hospitality and then headed back onto the train for the journey to Porthmadog.
Once back at our holiday home, we had a well-deserved afternoon snack and a little rest before heading to the on-site restaurant for dinner. As always, the food was delicious and the staff were wonderful. By the end of the evening, we were completely stuffed and ready for another well-earned rest! 😋
A fantastic end to the early celebration of Alessio’s birthday, which is actually next Friday. 🎉 His birthday party is already booked for September, but more importantly, I’ve booked a table at the famous restaurant at Hotel Portmeirion for his actual birthday next Friday — one of my favourite restaurants! ❤️
