On the road to recovery

Nov 08, 2024 Georgina Y M Tang
It's nine days since my brave young man had both of his quite large tonsils removed. Everything went smoothly at the hospital as we had planned it so well beforehand. Alessio was anaesthetised within minutes in the theatre room without any struggles for the first time.
.
Since the operation, he has been in agony so I gave him a very strong pain killer called codeine. The side effect of codeine is drowsy, nauseous feeling and vomiting. Alessio suffered from that badly that he couldn't even sleep despite being so very tired. However it was a matter to leave in pain or made him sick, I chose the latter, even though it broke my heart to see him so sick.
.
He has been in such pain that he barely drinks so I have been spoon-feeding him for days. A real sign of relief was when he started to drink a few days ago and yesterday, he ate a few mouthful of cottage pie, hopefully eat a bit more food tonight. No codeine needed yesterday, hooray!
.
I have been waking him up every night except last night to give him sips of water because his month have been so very dry through not drinking enough, as he is more confident to sleep on his own.
.
Finally, my young man is on the road to recovery after having such a painful operation and so very pleased to see him back to his usual cheerful happy self.
