Wow — 23 years today.
I never thought this day would come. I was told Alessio would never live past 1. When he did, I was told he'd function at the level of a 1.5–2 year old for life — never speak, never write. He has surpassed every one of those predictions. His educational psychologist's own assessments couldn't keep up with him, and today his reading age is 8.
Alessio was written off by professionals who believed he had no future after being diagnosed with severe Autism, Learning Difficulties and Attention Deficit Disorder. I was even advised to forget about him and have another child.
I am not someone who gives up on my son. Instead, I devoted my life to helping him reach his full potential — and he has. He is loved by everyone who meets him, and more than that, he is living his best life.
He's a fighter, like me. He doesn't let his phobias or fears stop him from enjoying life — like playing the drums with his ear defenders on, because he's hypersensitive to noise. He finds his own way through, every time.
Happy birthday, my darling boy. I love you more than anyone else in this world. 💙
Please share my post to inspire others. Many thanks.
