Ffestiniog Railways

It's almost Alessio's birthday so an early present for him - a ride on the steam engine train running the full length of the Ffestiniog Railways to appreciate the mountains and coastline (Mountain Spirit journey). Alessio loves riding on the train.

We got to the Porthmadog railway station excitedly but were told a fire broke out along the railway track resulting in the train not being able to come down the mountains. The customers who were in the earlier train were stuck up there! So disappointed on hearing that!

Then the railway staff said another train is going ahead so we can transfer our bookings to this one, however it would be almost an hour wait.

We transferred our bookings and waited patiently whilst the staff added additional carriages to the steam train to accommodate extra people.

Lovely train from the 1960s with a low ceiling and we have our own compartment which is lovely.

Very noisy as the steam engine train sets off and the first stop is Minffordd for Portmerion and Penrhyn is the next one for Penrhyn castle. Then we stopped at Tan-Y-Bwlch, one of Snowdonia's beautifully wooded valleys.

Despite the fire, we had a fab time and all staff have been fantastic including the car park attendant who let me have the last space with the Blue badge - drop off space. So accommodating when they are mostly volunteers. Thank you very much for making this a special trip for my young man!
